Returning to normal….

As we emerge from lockdown restrictions, we wanted to share with you our plans over the next few months. Whilst we are proud of the fact that we have remained open to look after our patients’ needs since June 2020, we acknowledge that some of you have been understandably cautious about venturing out, including going to see your dentist.

Safety has been paramount for us and we are proud of our safety record during this period.

Up until now, we have advised high-risk patients and those who are shielding to defer non-urgent treatment. However, we would now urge you to make your dental health a priority if that has been on hold during the pandemic and for those who have postponed or missed their dental health check or hygiene appointment to contact us. Overall infection rates have dropped sharply, and Government advice is that you are particularly safe if you have now had both your vaccinations.

We would therefore invite you to contact us to arrange one or all of the following:

  • Your dental check up
  • Your hygienist session
  • Your deferred treatments

Moreover, if you have had more complex procedures on hold, perhaps now is also the time to think about making plans with us to complete your treatment.

Although social restrictions are thankfully now being lifted, as health care professionals we are still required by Government regulations to play “extra safe”, namely:

  • PPE and social distancing protocols remain stringent to ensure your complete safety. We have no discretion to adjust these protocols and given how quickly infection rates can change we feel it is wise to err on the side of caution in these unprecedented times. We understand that one or two of you are frustrated by this inflexibility but hope you will appreciate that this is not within our control and that it is for your safety and the safety of the wider community.
  • We are as yet unable to implement our on-line booking system as the regulations still require us to screen and triage every appointment to ensure you have not been exposed to Covid-19. We are hopeful that this may change in the not too distant future to further enhance the service we can offer our patients.
  • Encouraging good hand hygiene with a hand cleaning station for you to clean your hands upon entry and when exiting the practice
  • Allocated times of the day when we see vulnerable patients to help to protect them from the virus
  • Scheduling of appointments to minimise the contact between you, other patients and the staff, and to also allow time for additional and more thorough cleaning and disinfection of the surgery and equipment.
  • Using enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Carrying out medical history updates via our online portal in advance of your appointment.

These changes are not unique to our practice as all dentists in England are required to take these precautions to help to protect against the spread of the coronavirus.

Given that our aim is “to be your dentist for life”, we are proud of the fact that we have continued to remain open to provide for our patients’ needs throughout the pandemic, with the exception of an enforced two-month shutdown in early 2020. We are also proud of our safety record and will remain ever-vigilant on that front. However, we believe that now is the time to prioritise your dental care to prevent longer term issues developing.

We’d love to hear from you
