A filling is used to restore a tooth when it has been damaged by tooth decay or if it has been accidentally chipped.

A filling can also be used to replace natural tooth tissue that has been worn away by teeth grinding which is also known as bruxism.

What can I expect if I need a filling?

You will be given a local anaesthetic which will numb the tooth, gum and surrounding area to make sure you are comfortable throughout the procedure.

Any decay is removed from the tooth until the area is clear. The tooth is then sealed and then filled with a resin composite material made from resin and glass. A final check will be made to ensure that your bite is comfortable.

Will I experience any pain?

No. We will use a local anaesthetic to numb the area and you should feel no pain at all. It will take a while for the anaesthetic and numbness to wear off and it is always best to avoid eating during that time.

What is a white filling?

White fillings are also known as composite fillings and can be used to match the colour of your teeth and create a natural-looking tooth. They are made of a synthetic resin and glass. White fillings can be used for the front or back teeth and are very durable.
