A plastic resin composite is used to make white fillings. The filling will be colour-matched to your own teeth so that the filling looks completely natural.
White fillings are used to repair a tooth that has been damaged by decay. More people are opting for white fillings because of their cosmetic benefits. Besides filling cavities, white fillings are also able to repair worn, fractured or broken teeth
Silver amalgam fillings have traditionally been used to fill the back molar teeth because of their strength and durability. Advances in the materials used in white fillings have made them stronger and comparable to amalgam fillings in terms of strength. Unlike silver amalgam fillings, white fillings are glued or bonded to the tooth. This means that silver fillings often require more drilling of the tooth so that they are locked in place to prevent them from falling out. White fillings are bonded to the tooth, so they often require less drilling and preserve more of the natural tooth. Compared to silver fillings they can help to hold the tooth together making it less likely to chip and break. White fillings are also easier to repair and refurbish in the future.
