What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a revolutionary tooth straightening system that has helped millions of people to improve their smile by correcting crooked, gappy or overlapping teeth. Invisalign® allows you to straighten your teeth without having to wear traditional metal braces. Invisalign® is a discreet and reliable method of straightening your teeth to give you the smile you have always wanted.

How does Invisalign® work?

Invisalign® is a state of the art orthodontic treatment that uses a series of very thin, clear, plastic trays that sit tightly over the teeth. These thin trays are called aligners and they gradually move the teeth little by little. Each aligner is worn for one to two weeks before moving on to the next aligner in the series. Each aligner moves the teeth a little further towards their planned final position and your new smile.

The aligners gently straighten teeth that are uneven and correct gaps, creating a beautiful smile you can be proud of.

In order for the aligners to work, they have to be worn for a minimum of twenty-two hours per day and should only be removed when eating and when cleaning your teeth.

What does the treatment involve?

There will be an initial consultation to determine that Invisalign® is the right treatment for you. A detailed treatment plan will then be developed.

Impressions and photographs are taken of your teeth and smile. These are sent to Invisalign® along with a prescription of what we want your final smile to look like. The experts at Invisalign® then use the latest 3D technology to create a completely bespoke treatment plan for you. You will be able to see the final look that you can expect with a virtual representation before deciding to go ahead.

Once you have agreed to the treatment plan you will be provided with a series of custom-made aligners that are worn and changed at suitable intervals, usually every fortnight. The aligners are comfortable to wear and clear so there is no need to feel self-conscious. They are made to fit your own teeth and gums perfectly.

Is Invisalign® painful?

You will feel slight pressure with each new aligner as they are designed to move your teeth into position. You should only experience slight discomfort at most during the course of the treatment

When can I remove the aligners?

The aligners are worn throughout the day and night. You should only remove them for eating and drinking and for cleaning and flossing your teeth. They should be cleaned using a gentle toothbrush and an antibacterial, unscented soap, as toothpaste will be too abrasive.

How long will the treatment last?

The number of aligners varies for each individual depending on the degree of movement needed.

It usually takes between 6-18 months to complete the treatment as each case is different. A review will be carried out every 4-6 weeks to make sure everything is going to plan and to monitor your progress before you receive your next series of aligners.

Throughout the treatment, your teeth will gently move into an even and healthy smile. You then maintain your beautiful new smile by wearing retainers at night.

What are the benefits of Invisalign®?

1. Improved appearance and maintenance of your teeth

One of the main advantages of Invisalign® is that it will straighten your teeth to improve the appearance your smile. We also know that it is easier to keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy if the teeth are straight – so straightening your teeth with Invisalign® will help to improve your smile as well as the long-term health of your teeth and gums.

2. Nearly invisible

Invisalign® aligners are nearly invisible. They are so discrete that people may not notice that you are wearing them. Invisalign® is great for adults who want to straighten their teeth but don’t want to wear traditional braces with metal wires and brackets. Invisalign® is also great for people who have had braces in the past and for whatever reason their teeth have moved back or relapsed and they want to straighten their teeth again.

3. Removable

Unlike traditional bracket and wire braces, Invisalign® retainers are removable which means you can eat and drink what you want during treatment. You can also remove the retainers to brush and floss your teeth so you can maintain healthy teeth and gums.

4. Convenient

Your dental appointments for Invisalign® are typically much shorter and more straightforward compared with traditional braces as there are no brackets and wires to adjust.

5. Evolving

Invisalign® is the largest orthodontic aligner company in the world. Over six million people have been treated with Invisalign® worldwide. Invisalign® uses state of the art digital planning software and artificial intelligence that is constantly learning from each case. This is why Invisalign® is constantly evolving, becoming more efficient and more predictable. That means you get the smile you want – more quickly with less hassle.

6. See the end result

Another advantage of Invisalign® is the unique ClinCheck software that allows you to see what your new smile is predicted to look like. Being able to see the end result before you commit to the treatment can take the guesswork out of your decision and put you onto the path to the smile you’ve always wanted.

The Queens Dental Practice is currently offering a free initial consultation for Invisalign®.
